The TV series Peacemaker premiered on January 13, 2022, and created history by becoming the first official show within the DC Universe (DCU). It also marked the first spin-off of James Gunn’s 2021 movie, The Suicide Squad. Peacemaker received a very positive response, rising to popularity for the same reasons as its predecessor – it’s gritty, dark, vulgar, hilarious, and surprisingly touching, with nuanced and layered characters. The series follows Peacemaker (played by John Cena) after he’s released from the hospital following the events of The Suicide Squad. However, given his criminal history, he’s not going to walk free and quickly gets sucked into another black ops project just to avoid being thrown back in jail.
The success of “Peacemaker” resulted in a rapid renewal for season 2. After the renewal, Peter Safran and Gunn were named co-CEOs of DC Studios. Gunn has been busy planning the first chapter of the new DC Universe and finishing “Superman: Legacy”. Although “Peacemaker” was confirmed to be a part of the new DC Universe, it has been on the back burner for a while. However, Gunn recently provided an update that gives hope that progress on “Peacemaker” season 2 may resume soon.
Peacemaker Season 2 Is Confirmed
WarnerMedia and HBO Max have already announced the second season of Peacemaker. Creator James Gunn and star John Cena shared the exciting news on social media just before the finale of the first season. The second season will apparently comprise seven episodes, all of which will be written and directed by Gunn himself

It’s worth noting that the script for Peacemaker Season 2 has been completed, but the show is still in its early stages of development. There’s currently no official release date set for Peacemaker Season 2, and James Gunn has hinted that fans will have to wait for a considerable amount of time.
Gunn has confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 is in the works, and it will be his next project after he finishes working on Superman: Legacy. However, as Superman: Legacy is set to be released on July 11, 2025, it’s likely to keep Gunn busy due to its scale and complexity.
Peacemaker(TV Series) Season 2 Cast
It is highly likely that most of the main cast members from the first season of Peacemaker will return to their roles in the upcoming second season. However, there has been no official confirmation yet. John Cena will reprise his role as the lead character, the peace-loving anti-hero. Freddie Stroma, who portrays Vigilante and is a close friend of Peacemaker, is also expected to make a comeback. Jennifer Holland is likely to return as Harcourt, and her character may continue to recover while exploring a possible relationship with Smith. Steve Agee’s character, Economos, was shown back at Belle Reve prison, so it’s possible that he will also appear in the second season. Moreover, Danielle Brooks may return after Adebayo recognizes her ability to lead a similar lifestyle to her mother.
There are hints that Robert Patrick’s character Auggie could appear in the second season of Peacemaker. The season 1 finale suggested that Chris saw his father’s ghost, making it possible for Auggie’s ghost to play a role in the upcoming season. This could either represent Chris’ complex relationship with his abusive father or be a significant development for the series. Additionally, Viola Davis might take on a more prominent role as Amanda Waller in Peacemaker season 2. The Waller show will release beforehand, giving more time to develop the DC Universe character before introducing her in the second season.
