Paramount Network’s popular Western drama series, Yellowstone, has encountered unexpected challenges, despite its success and high ratings. The show’s fifth season, which has been on hold since January 2023, will be its final season. Although the end of the series was anticipated, it was not expected to happen so soon. It seems that Kevin Costner, the show’s star, will not be participating in the final episodes as he shifts his focus to his new passion project of producing a series of Western films. This decision became the primary reason for the show’s cancellation. However, there is some good news for fans of the show. Yellowstone Season 5 is preparing to resume production, and the show is now reaching a wider audience as it airs on CBS.
There is a great deal of unresolved matters that must be addressed before the flagship series comes to an end. A civil war has erupted among the Dutton family, with Jamie and Beth in a bitter conflict, John (Costner) facing impeachment. Additionally, a deadly illness spreading through the Montana wildlife, putting the Duttons in danger.
Why is Yellowstone ending with season 5?
According to reports, the popular TV series Yellowstone will be ending after season five. The reason behind this decision is said to be a scheduling dispute. Season 5 of a TV show was planned to be divided into two parts. However, the lead actor Kevin Costner wasn’t pleased with the decision. He was simultaneously working on his own four-movie series called Horizon: An American Saga. The divided schedule impacted his ability to direct and film his movies.
The rumor was that Costner only wanted to film for a certain number of days, but the Yellowstone team told him that wouldn’t be possible being the lead actor on the show and needed to be on set for more days. Later, it was confirmed that Costner had already moved his schedule around to film Part One, and he didn’t want to do that again for Part Two. This revelation came during his divorce battle, where People magazine reported the details.
Costner expressed interest in returning for Season 6 of Yellowstone before it was cancelled. However, negotiations broke down, and he decided to leave the show once and for all. According to him, he felt he couldn’t be of any more help to them. During the negotiations, the show offered him less money than the previous seasons, and there were also some creative differences. They agreed on a number, but Yellowstone eventually walked away. The actor also mentioned that he will likely take legal action for his salary in the second part of Season 5.
Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 release date
According to a report by Variety on November 2, the second part of Yellowstone Season 5 will be premiering in November 2024. This is a delay of one year from its original expected return date. While an exact premiere date has not been announced, production is scheduled to begin early 2024.
